Do You Really Really Need To Know Any Of This Stuff?

Probably not. Here's some stuff we discovered:

Don't think you're done if you've cut off that roach's head:

A cockroach can live a week without its head. The roach only dies because without a mouth, it can't drink water and dies of thirst.

And who hasn't asked themselves that ultimate question:

What are boogers?

Boogers are dried up snot and dirty nose debris. They can be small, slimy lumps or big dry brown lumps. Either way, boogers are filled with the junk that's in the air you breathe.

Oh, great. We really really needed to know that. Really.

Well, don't say we didn't warn you: The Yuckiest Site on the Internet.

Garfield Comic Creator

The last we looked, one entire section of our "library" was devoted to Garfield comics. We are, to say the least, huge fans.

There's just something so lovable - and heartwarmingly snarky - about that huge round orange ball of fur. He's simply irresistable.

Now we're able to indulge ourselves to the utmost, with the Garfield Comic Creator.  You know all those things you've always thought would be perfect coming out of Garfield's mouth? Well, now you can create your own Garfield strip and have Garfield saying even snarkier things than he normally does.

The Garfield Comic Creator comes with the entire cast of characters: Garfield, Odie, Nermal, Jon and yes, even Arlene. (You're imagining some interesting scenarios right now even as you read, aren't you?)

When you're done, you can even print out your creation in all its creative glory.

Hey, what better way to while away a few hours?

I Used To Believe ...

You know the phrase, "kids say the darndest things"? Well, how about "kids believe the darndest things"?

We just came across a site that collects all the things grown-ups used to believe as kids.

One thing's for sure. Adults and older sibs are responsible for a lot of really strange beliefs. Parents, in particular, are pretty good at creating really outrageous tales in order to get their kids to behave.

We noticed a common thread when it comes to beliefs about the radio. It seems that growing up, we're prone to believing that:

(1) the songs you hear are being sung live ... over and over again, by those poor singers, or else (2) people/bands/whatever live in the radio and crank out those tunes.

After sifting through quite a few beliefs, it dawned on us that, aside from some truly irrational beliefs, kids, on the whole, are actually very logical.

Knee Surgery, Anyone?

Up for knee surgery? Or maybe you've always had dreams of becoming a doctor. (We never did. But anyway.)

Check out the virtual knee surgery at Edheads.org, where you get to play the role of surgeon (we know you've always wanted to) and perform knee surgery on a 74 year old man. Very detailed (to us, anyway, but hey, we're not in the medical profession.)

Great place to send kids who want to grow up to be doctors.

One of us is a bit squeamish, and the other one couldn't lay hands on a few moments without the squeamish one around, so we never got around to checking out the actual surgery pictures. Don't let that stop you, though.

Seeing Red (Infrared, That Is)

Crammed with all sorts of stuff about our infrared universe, if you've got kids into this kind of stuff, let them loose here. We thought the games were kind of lame, but then again we're not kids. The Splitzer in the Space Place was kind of cool, though.

A-Mazing!

One of us has fond memories of a love affair with mazes way back when. This maze site would have hit the spot back then - we could have printed out mazes and amused ourselves for hours on end ...

(Yes, the phrase "get a life" is on the tip of the tongue but We Value This Relationship, Really We Do.)

Great site for the kidlets, though. Especially on those rainy summer days, about two seconds after they've screamed "School's out for the summer" (hum along now). You know, when you're thinking you'll go bald if you can't get yourself to stop pulling your hair out.
