Morticia Halloween Costume

Morticia Halloween CostumeIt's that time of the year again! And this year, since we're into all things shopping, we've decided to start a Halloween Costume feature, complete with its own category. We'll try to post as many costumes as we can between now and the Big Dress-up Day, looking for, of course, the best of the best that's out there.

Our first pick? Morticia, of the Addams Family, of course! Could it be any easier? Classic, classic Halloween wear. It's the kind of thing that's perfect for hanging in your closet, awaiting that invite to the first (or second, or third ...) Halloween bash this year.

Martin Luther King Jr.

Martin Luther King Jr.:

"With this faith we will be able to hew out of
the mountain of despair a stone of hope. With this faith we will be
able to transform the jangling discords of our nation into a
beautiful symphony of brotherhood. With this faith we will be able to
work together, to pray together, to struggle together, to go to jail
together, to stand up for freedom together, knowing that we will be
free one day."

Immortal words that hold as much faith, hope and vision today as they did back in 1963.

Hear excerpts from "I Have a Dream" and other speeches by Martin Luther King Jr. here.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

We want to wish everyone a very merry Christmas and extraordinarily happy holidays! Don't stress, eat lots and lots, and be pleasant to your relatives - you only have to do this once a year, right?

And we can rest easy - the big guy won't run into any problems making his rounds tonight - Google's tracking Santa's flight ;)

Send a Gingerbread Man E-Card

Gingerbread Man E-Card

If you're tired of the regular old Christmas e-cards, try this gingerbread man e-card instead. It's just a little bit different - you start out with a plain gingerbread cookie, and you can decorate it with icing and little candy buttons.

It's kind of cute, and kind of fun - perfect for the holidays.

Melting Snowmen Canisters

Melting Snowmen Canisters

We're not too sure how festive these are.

The snow kind of fits the season (especially up north here), but to be honest, the faces kind of remind us of Scream.

Anyway, you can order these Marcel Dzama Melting Snowmen Canisters here for $129.00.

Turkey Carving How-To

Turkey - Ready to be Carved

Just in time for the major turkey holiday (well, not for the turkey, of course): How to Carve Turkey.

There are apparently two methods: Standard style and Side style.

We didn't know this. Both look terribly complicated, which is why it's great that this article tells you how.

We also didn't know this:

The choice dark meat above the thigh in the spoon-shaped section of the backbone is called the "oyster". Use the point of the knife to lift it out.

Our motto? Have someone else cook the turkey. You can bet there will then be someone proficient at getting the turkey in neat slices onto the table, where we will then proceed to stuff our faces. Easy.

Hey, it works for us.

Annual Family Computer Fixing Event

aka Holidays at Home.

How to Fix Mom and Dad's Computer is definitely one article you'll need to print out and keep in your backpack or suitcase for that trip home for Thanksgiving (or Christmas or what-have-you).

Don't know about you, but it always happens to us.

(Actually, we do a ton fo phone support around here, too - we get "help my pc is doing x" calls from relatives about three days out of seven. One of our mothers is now working on a volunteer thing that requires her to FTP ... make that five days out of seven, okay?)

But get our physical bodies actually inside a parental home and we've got to watch out. We definitely want to have time for turkey and all, you know? Rather than being stuck in the den while everyone else is munching away.

Before you nobly trudge into helpdesk hell, here’s a little checklist of ways to get your parents’ creaky PC back in tip-top shape - at least, until next year.

So print out the article, laminate it, scrunch it up and stick it in your wallet or purse, memorize it, whatever - we think it will definitely come in handy.

Turkey & Gravy Soda

JonesSoda Holiday Pack

In preparation for the American Thanksgiving holiday (we already had ours here in Canada last month), we came across something we really (really!) do want to try.

But we thought we'd give you all first shot at it.

You can, you know, tell us exactly what it tastes like ...

Jones Soda brings their new Holiday Pack, in limited editions - a very good thing, we figured, once we got a look at the flavors:

The National Pack:

Flavors: Brussels Sprout with Prosciutto, Cranberry Sauce, Turkey & Gravy, Wild Herb Stuffing, and Pumpkin Pie. Also included: Serving spoon, moistened towelette, and wine list.

The Regional Pack:

Flavors: Broccoli Casserole, Smoked Salmon Paté , Turkey & Gravy, Corn on the Cob, and Pecan Pie. Also included: Serving spoon, moistened towelette.

(Broccoli Casserole? That's really got to be a hit ...)

Looks like you can pick up the National Pack at your local Target. See the store locator if you absolutely must grab yourself a Regional Pack.

Your Very Own Charlie Brown Christmas Tree

Charlie Brown's Christmas Tree

Okay, we were flipping through our feeds, and saw this. Talk about making it feel like Christmas already. Both of us have some great memories of hunkering down with popcorn to watch poor Charlie Brown and his pathetic little tree.

That sad thing is a true classic, that's for sure.

Now we all have the chance to own it. The Charlie Brown Pathetic Tree is available from Urban Outfitters:

The tree is an exact replica of the tree from the famous cartoon, made of wire branches and plastic needles with a criss cross wooden base. The bendable branches allow you to make it look just how you want, super pathetic or just kind of pathetic.

It even comes with that one solitary little red ball, so you can make the tree droop just perfectly.

USB Drumming Santa Claus

On the off-chance that you're just like us (workaholics who never leave the computer, it feels like), but you're also slightly crazy about Christmas (like one of us is, and of course, when one of us is, the other one naturally gets dragged into it whether he wants to be or not) ...

Where were we?

Oh, yeah. Check out the USB Drumming Santa - plug it into your computer and immerse yourself into the holiday spirit, geek-style.

Take Your iPod Trick-or-Treating

iPod Halloween Costume

Well, okay. One of us thought the little toothy face look was kind of cute.

But, really, though - who dreams up stuff like this? We've seriously never looked at our iPods and thought, "There's something missing. Now, what could it be? Hey, wait a minute! You need clothes! You're buck nekkid - you definitely need clothes. Now, don't whine, don't whimper. Hey, Halloween's coming up. If you're a good little iPod and put on this cute sweater Aunt Myrtle knit for you, we'll fork over $39.99 and buy you the sweetest little vampire costume any iPod could ever want."

Seriously.

Here's what you get for your 40 bucks: "wet vinyl cape that ties on with elastic; a sheet of vampire face stickers; and a nifty hand-made coffin box to hold your costume."

Yeah. Nifty. More selection at iAttire.

Happy Fourth of July!

Happy Fourth of July to all our readers in the States! We're back to work after our own weekend off (Canada Day was on July 1) but I think we were all probably partying around the same time this past weekend.

For those of you who'd like to get a little fireworks practice in during the day, before any major fireworks shows tonight, check out Cyber Fireworks. It's a cute site that will let you while away a few minutes while you're waiting for it to get dark enough for real fireworks.

Note: If you're a Firefox user, we couldn't get it to work on Firefox. But when we opened it up in Internet Explorer, it worked fine.

We Missed Orgasm Day!

We missed Orgasm Day (for those of you who, like us, were so NOT in the know about Orgasm-Day-Stuff, it happened on May 9).

Life is just not fair.

Oh, crap. Does this mean we have to wait another year? (Stop laughing - we're talking about waiting another year for Orgasm DAY, not for an orgasm. Sheesh.)

Anyway, direct from the article:

"We're celebrating orgasm in all its senses. There's even a panel discussion on premature ejaculation. But from what I've seen, women have more trouble achieving orgasm than men, especially in marriage," [Mayor] Santolia said by telephone from Esperantina, 1,300 miles (2,100 kilometers) north of Rio de Janeiro.

Okay. Is it just us, or does this quote tickle your funny bone, too?

Like, "from what I've seen". (We're not even going to touch this one.)

So, women have more trouble achieving orgasm ... or perhaps it's men have more trouble bringing women to orgasm ... (Not that we're implying anything.)

And what's with "especially in marriage"? You mean, it's easier to achieve orgasm when you're not married?

We didn't know that. Hey, you learn something new every day.

Today, a tribute.

Dear Erma,

Thank you. For all your wonderful words whenever we need a bit of comfort and some laughter in our lives. For your quiet sense of humor. For your dignity and your grace. For each and every one of your books and essays that we still read and re-read.

We love you and we miss you.

Google Gulp ;)

Google Gulp. Hey, it's low in carbs, and changes your brain chemistry (for the better, of course).

Rest assured:

No personally identifiable information of any kind related to your consumption of Google Gulp or any other current or future Google Foods product will ever be given, sold, bartered, auctioned off, tossed into a late-night poker pot, or otherwise transferred in any way to any untrustworthy third party, ever, we swear.

(Luckily, the not-gullible one landed here first, or we'd be out at the store lining up for the first shipment.)

April Fools' Day Quiz

Just in time for April Fools, here's a quiz to test your gullibility factor.

(Only one of us did the quiz, and let's just say there's nothing wrong with 6 out of 16, and yes, we're interested in that beachfront property you're hawking.)

The funniest scenario was the shark one. But what's with all the carrot stuff?
