For all you parents-to-be: be aware, be very very aware. Go to Baby's Named a Bad, Bad Thing. Read. Read more. Read every word: Take the Site to Bed With You. Read until you know all of it inside out.
Please. Do NOT name your baby a bad, bad thing.
Case in point:
We aren't having kids for another year or two, but we like Kellyna Nychole, Taryn Mykah and Mykenzie Kathryn for girls.
This woman was indicted under the Flagrant Over-Use of the Letters K and Y Act of 1983.
Wait! It gets better. Much much better. (Or should we say worse? Much much worse)
I know a little boy (4 years old) called Orion. He has a little sister called Venus. I think it is original without being at all silly, like some 'unique' names can be.
Yeah. Silly. I'm feeling my ability to gauge silly and non-silly slipping fast.
This one just about did us in, though:
I am having this baby boy on Aug 6. Dad and I love Alexander Scott but our last name is Smith. Will the initals be a huge problem? We don't want him to be teased.
That's OK. Kids are pretty uncreative when it comes to teasing. They'll never eventually spot that one.

The Baby Name Wizard's NameVoyager is just too cool. We spent hours typing in the names of just about everyone we know.
If you're planning on having a baby, and don't want your kid to be an Ashley among ten Ashleys in her class, this is definitely a good site to check out.

For all you writers out there, here's a great baby name site. We thought it was pretty cool that you could actually search for names according to meaning.
So if you're writing the Great American Novel, and you need to find a name for a minor character who's rather unique, hey, you could name her (can you guess this one?) "Unique".
Seriously, though, this is a pretty handy site to have on hand, whether you're a writer overcoming a character name block, or an expectant parent looking for just the right name for the little-one-to-be.
